omîtay Cultural Camps is a land-based initiative rooted in the revitalization of Indigenous knowledge, language, and cultural practices through hands-on, intergenerational learning. The word omîtay comes from nehiyawewin (cree language) and means “here it is”—a powerful reminder that our culture, teachings, and identity are not lost or far away. They are right here, in our backyards, in our stories, in the land, and in each other.

The name and vision for omîtay were gifted by Kenny Roan, a respected Knowledge Keeper who carries a deep understanding of the land and the importance of passing on traditional teachings. He entrusted this vision to his granddaughter osamuskwasis and their family, giving them the responsibility to carry it forward for the benefit of future generations. omîtay is both a promise and a legacy—an act of love, responsibility, and cultural continuity.

Guided by Elders and Knowledge Keepers, the camps provide space for youth and families to reconnect with traditional skills like beading, hide tanning, hunting, language, and storytelling. omîtay fosters cultural pride, healing, and belonging, while reminding us that everything we are searching for has always been with us.
